How to use this tool

  1. Enter target tonnage. One metric tonne equals 1000 kg.
  2. Set nominal rebar diameter in millimetres and stock length in metres.
  3. Use the within-target count for a weight ceiling. Use the required count and resulting order weight to meet a minimum tonnage.

Calculation formula

kg/bar = 0.00617 × d² (mm) × L (m); N = tonnes × 1000 ÷ kg/bar

Bar mass uses the same approximate 0.00617 × diameter squared × length relationship as the site’s rebar weight calculator. Divide target mass by bar mass, rounding down for a weight ceiling and up for minimum supply.

Worked example

For one tonne of 16 mm rebar in 12 m lengths, theoretical bar mass is 18.95424 kg. There are 52 whole bars within one tonne; meeting at least one tonne requires 53 bars weighing approximately 1,004.57 kg.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there two different bar counts?

Bars are indivisible units. A weight ceiling requires rounding down; a minimum required weight requires rounding up. The latter produces a slightly heavier order when the target is not an exact multiple of bar mass.

Can I estimate the number of bars in a bundle?

Yes, if you know its net mass and bar dimensions. Convert the bundle mass to tonnes and enter it. The result remains theoretical; mill packaging and actual bar mass can change the count.
